Hello Everyone!Tweed, twist, tom!! What is your take on all of these terms? Facebook, Digg, Delicious, Myspace, Ning, and Twitter...where does this all begin? Where is this going?
My confessions!! I was reluctant to join the Social Networking Internet parties! Perhaps maybe, because I thought, social networking would require a great deal of time. {Yes, it does require a great deal of time.} Time, that I cannot find in my schedule. Another reason why I was reluctant, addiction!! Yes, you must have self control not to partake in the click, read, and reply. Productivity is the essence of a business model. Unless you are generating large numbers of marketing revenues, how can this new crave of socializing benefit someone?
I have seen the power of this social network process. I found some of my high school and college friends. It was pretty cool.

Let's take a look at alternative ways people are using Social Networking! I was astonished at the number of new business and season business marketing divisions that are taking this SN environment by storm. While I could not quite grasp the whole concepts, take a look how people are using this very powerful SN concept to become the new age millionaires.

my sn has been ok so far. i mean i don't have a lot of time to be on it with the class load that i have... it is good though to keep in touch. it can be over whelming at times but im glad im finally on board with with all my friends and family.
ReplyDeleteBefore participating in this class, I did not have any SN experience. So far my experience with SN has been positive. Before this class I never explored SN websites because of all the negative information I heard or read about. I now have a Facebook and Twitter account. Because of my busy schedule; church, work, school, etc. I have not participated much as I'd like to. I was very surprised to learn about SN as it relates to marketing a business. Because my husband has a business, I shared this information with him.
ReplyDeleteYou are right about keeping in touch with family and friends. When I signed on to Facebook, I received a lot of invites from family and friends. SN technology is truly amazing.
ReplyDeleteWhat if we could include an audio or visual component to our resumes, that would be cool. But at the same time, it would open up more bias. Essentially, I see SN as a very effective business tool if used properly. SN is also fun and rewarding when you start to build up your network.
ReplyDeleteI first used myspace when I was deployed over seas and found a fun way to keep up with the people I was not able to call at the time. Now I see how many of my friends use these type of sites to promote their businesses, as well as talk to friends.
ReplyDeleteMy first experience with social networks was with myspace when I was in the eleventh grade. I am now on Facebook also. I have tried Twitter, but I really do not understand the point.
ReplyDeleteInteresting links . I have set up a blog , research1203 under my faedysart name to see how that goes. On looking through the sites posted I stand in bewildered awe at how many people are using them. I am not ready to give up face to face interaction , and I feel that meeting with someone will still be the best way to judge whether or not you can work together. However for collaboration on topics and real time discussions with people one is already connected to , these blogs and tweets are quicker than phone calls. It does make work life more productive , but sometimes I think I'd rather run off to sea and become a sailor to get back to simpler less connected times.

I have mixed feelings about SN sites. I am guilty of enjoying the thrill of locating and communicating with old friends. I also enjoy communicating in brief, sporadic comments. However, I am quite concerned about how I am perceived by others say employers or potential professional groups when I could be judged by my preferences of politics, food, tv shows, groups, etc. SN is supposed to be personal and fun and although I believe in being true to myself, I do think there needs to be a division between personal and professional lives. What do you think?
